Volleyball Recap: Venture Academy Takes a Loss

If Venture Academy was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Humphreys Able Charter two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs came up short against the River Islands Riptide on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Riptide this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in March.

While Venture Academy had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.

River Islands' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taray Irving led the charge by getting 12 digs. That's the most digs Irving has posted over his last eight contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Landan Namayan, who had 11 digs.

Venture Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for River Islands, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.

Looking ahead, Venture Academy will host Millennium at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for River Islands, they are taking a road trip to take on Ben Holt College Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats will roll in looking for their 26th straight win, something the Riptide surely won't give up without a fight.
