Softball Game Preview: North Providence Cougars vs. Woonsocket Villa Novans

The North Providence Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Woonsocket Villa Novans at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. North Providence has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 4.

North Providence couldn't beat Mt. Hope on Thursday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the first inning. The Cougars came up short against the Huskies, falling 20-10. Even if the Cougars couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Idalia Rivera made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Heon, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Woonsocket and Toll Gate, and Toll Gate kept the tradition alive. The Villa Novans lost 16-1 to the Titans on Friday.

North Providence's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Woonsocket, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

North Providence took their victory against Woonsocket in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
