The West Stanly Colts will challenge the North Brunswick Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
West Stanly's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Cherryville as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.
West Stanly let Jenna Brock and Laney Tucker run wild. Brock went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Tucker got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Brock has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Austin, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
West Stanly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherryville only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for North Brunswick, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top against Whiteville on Monday by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Scorpions needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
The team relied heavily on Jada Thomas, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Adrianna Gomez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for West Stanly and bumps their season record up to 18-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for North Brunswick, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
North Brunswick's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. West Stanly has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for North Brunswick, though, as they've been averaging only 2.3 strikeouts. Will West Stanly keep running through batters, or will the Scorpions buck the trend?
West Stanly took their victory against North Brunswick when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scorpions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
