Basketball Game Preview: Key West Conchs vs. Somerset Academy Panthers

The Key West Conchs will head out to square off against the Somerset Academy Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Tuesday, Key West humbled Coral Shores with a 59-23 victory. The Conchs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 23 points or more this season.

Key West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tramane Scott led the charge by putting up eight points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of James Osborne, who posted seven points.

Key West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Somerset Academy came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Colts by a score of 73-64.

Key West has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Somerset Academy, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Key West was dealt a bruising 88-56 loss at the hands of Somerset Academy when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Somerset Academy's Jayden Alcine, who went 14 of 18 on his way to 31 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
