Recap: Artesia Pioneers vs. Steele Canyon Cougars
Even though the Steele Canyon Cougars scored an imposing 57 points on Monday, the Artesia Pioneers still came out on top. Artesia took their matchup against Steele Canyon 66-57.
Zion Staples continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 18 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Joshua Martinez, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Artesia's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Steele Canyon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Artesia will take on Oxford Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oxford Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1080th, while Artesia is ranked 459th). Steele Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next match is against West Hills at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th.
