Volleyball Game Preview: Arvada West Wildcats vs. Fossil Ridge SaberCats

The Arvada West Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Arvada West comes in on three and Fossil Ridge on four.

On Saturday, Arvada West made easy work of Forge Christian and carried off a 3-0 win.

The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.

Arvada West can attribute much of their success to Giuseppe Licata, who had five digs and four aces. That's the most aces Licata has posted since back in March of 2024.

Licata wasn't the only good server: Arvada West was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge faced Niwot in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The SaberCats had just enough and edged out the Cougars 3-2.

Fossil Ridge got the W, but it wasn't easy, at least in the third set. The final score came out to 28-26, 25-21, 28-30, 17-25, 15-13.

Arvada West's victory bumped their record up to 15-7. As for Fossil Ridge, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Arvada West has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Fossil Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
