Basketball Recap: Madisyn Smith Key Part of a Team Effort in Trojans Win

James Island won the last time they faced West Ashley and things went their way on Friday too. The James Island Trojans walked away with a 51-42 victory over the West Ashley Wildcats.

James Island got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madisyn Smith out in front who went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points along with eight boards and three steals. Smith has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Singleton, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

James Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why West Ashley lost, don't look at Ella Crowe. Despite the final result, she put up nine points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. What's more, Crowe also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Elliott, who had 11 points.

James Island has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for West Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

James Island didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-26 loss against Summerville on the 14th. As for West Ashley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 53-42 victory against Fort Dorchester on the 14th.
