Basketball Game Preview: Vela Sabercats vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders

Vela and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Vela Sabercats will head out to challenge the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Vela will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Vela is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial for the full four quarters, racking up a 91-11 victory. The Sabercats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 21 points or more this season.

Vela's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gg Betancourt, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Betancourt is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Savanah Rivera, who posted ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pioneer.

Vela pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7.

Vela came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North in their previous matchup back in November, falling 41-37. Can Vela avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
