Baseball Recap: Vineland Triumphs

Vineland and Highland Regional pushed the score to 11-9 the last time they played Highland Regional, but on Sunday defenses reigned supreme. The Fighting Clan never let the Tartans get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For the Fighting Clan, this counts as revenge for the 11-9 win the Tartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Jake Garton tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Vineland is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Vineland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Etheridge, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases and one run. Those three hits gave Etheridge a new career-high. Izayah Quinones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Vineland now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Highland Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4-1.

Coming up, Vineland will head out on the road to square off against Ocean City at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Highland Regional, they will take on Delsea at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Tartans surely won't give up without a fight.
