Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Reeds Spring

Reeds Spring waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Bakersfield Lions. That's more bragging rights for the Wolves, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Bristol Welch spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ellie Hembree, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 games. Chloe Clevenger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Reeds Spring's win bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Bakersfield, they moved to 13-4 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coming up, Reeds Spring will welcome Forsyth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Panthers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Bakersfield, they will venture away from home to take on Gainesville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.94 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
