Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ridgefield

Ridgefield waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Westhill Vikings with a sharp 12-6 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Caitlin McGratty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Grace Couch and Sonia Gaughran did most of the damage at the plate: Couch got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Gaughran went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That stolen base was Gaughran's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Cappiello, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ridgefield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Ridgefield's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Westhill, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Ridgefield will head out on the road to square off against St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cadets' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westhill, they will be playing at home against Danbury at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hatters have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
