Basketball Recap: Rolla Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Rolla had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Deerfield Spartans by a score of 31-28 on Thursday. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Rolla still got an impressive performance from Yareli Cruz, who posted 16 points. The dominant performance also gave Cruz a new career-high in rebounds (four).

Deerfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashlee Hernandez out in front who had ten points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jisselle Saenz, who put up eight points.

Rolla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-19 defeat against Walsh on the 6th. As for Deerfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 45-11 loss against Hodgeman County on the 6th.
