Football Recap: Wheaton North Takes a Loss

Wheaton North had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it eight. They lost 28-7 to the Batavia Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 15th).

As for Batavia, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Batavia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Michael Vander Luitgaren led the charge by throwing for 223 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The Bulldogs' leading receiver Brett Berggren was Vander Luitgaren's top target yet again, picking up 111 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheaton North will face off against Geneva at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Batavia, they will square off against St. Charles East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Fighting Saints' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36.86 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
