Basketball Game Preview: Cortland Purple Tigers vs. Bishop Grimes Cobras

Cortland is on a three-game streak of home losses also dating back to last season, Bishop Grimes a six-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Thursday. The Cortland Purple Tigers will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against the Bishop Grimes Cobras at 6:45 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Cortland is coming home looking for redemption after taking a loss in their road opener. They fell to Oswego 65-60. While the Purple Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bucs 15-10 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Cortland had strong showings from Zach Muir, who went 10 for 15 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds, and Jaxson Gambitta, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Muir a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Albright, who posted four points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, Bishop Grimes was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 52-51 to Jamesville-DeWitt.

Cortland came up short against Bishop Grimes when the teams last played back in February of 2021, falling 51-40. Can Cortland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
