Football Game Preview: Bishop Gorman Gaels vs. Desert Oasis Diamondbacks

Bishop Gorman has won 12 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Desert Oasis has won 12 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Bishop Gorman Gaels will welcome the Desert Oasis Diamondbacks at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Bishop Gorman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Arbor View, who was ranked ninth at the time (Bishop Gorman was ranked fourth). Bishop Gorman walked away with a 33-24 win over Arbor View on Friday.

Meanwhile, Desert Oasis strolled past Liberty with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 41-26.

Bishop Gorman better keep an eye on Akemi Higa. She was instrumental in Desert Oasis' win, throwing for 322 yards and six touchdowns while completing 81.8% of her passes, and also rushing for 73 yards on only nine carries. Higa is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as she's now passed for four or more in the last 12 games she's played. Akiko Higa was Akemi's top target, picking up 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Desert Oasis didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Higa and Allie Peralta. Kaaliyah Robinson was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making eight total tackles.

Bishop Gorman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.6 points per game. As for Desert Oasis, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.

Bishop Gorman came up short against Desert Oasis when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 26-18. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Higa, who threw for 188 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 36 yards.
