Softball Recap: Rowan County Picks Up 11th Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Rowan County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past the Fleming County Panthers 12-1 on Tuesday. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Kassi Perkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauryn Eastham, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Diamond Wills was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Rowan County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fleming County only posted an OBP of .211.

Rowan County's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Fleming County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Rowan County will be playing in front of their home fans against East Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 2.7, the Raiders 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Fleming County, they will challenge George Rogers Clark at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
