Baseball Recap: Spanish Fork Comes Up Short

Spanish Fork was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wasatch Wasps. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dons of the 1-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Swae Nielson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Spanish Fork saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Orton, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Spanish Fork's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Wasatch, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

While Spanish Fork had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
