Baseball Recap: Waupun Comes Up Short

Waupun suffered their closest defeat since April 20, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Chargers by a score of 4-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 last Tuesday.

Landen Larsen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bryant Ferris and Trey Schmidt did some serious damage despite the final result: Ferris went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, while Schmidt went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Waupun and nudges their season record down to 16-6. As for Kettle Moraine Lutheran, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5.

Waupun and Kettle Moraine Lutheran should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Warriors will challenge Plymouth at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (32 vs. 209). Meanwhile, Kettle Moraine Lutheran (ranked 47th) will meet Ripon (ranked 301st) at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
