Baseball Recap: Napoleon Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

Napoleon barely beat Southview the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Wednesday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Owen Espinoza's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Paul Sausser, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Rubinstein, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.

Napoleon is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southview, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

Napoleon and Southview could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Wildcats (ranked 131st) will meet Perrysburg (ranked 42nd) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Southview will face off against Northview at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (415 vs. 187).
