Oaks Christian is 9-1 against Newbury Park since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lions will face off against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Oaks Christian sitting on ten straight victories and Newbury Park on three.
On Friday, Oaks Christian needed a bit of extra time to put away Valencia. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings, sneaking past 2-1.
Sophia Debs spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Oaks Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Beck, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Newbury Park posted their closest win since April 26, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Buena 5-4.
Veronica Wasserman tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk).
At the plate, Janessa Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lily Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Newbury Park pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oaks Christian, their record is now 19-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Oaks Christian hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Newbury Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Oaks Christian beat Newbury Park 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
