Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Mississinawa Valley's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Mississinawa Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Botkins Trojans.

Ella Godfrey was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Godfrey wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cora Hoggatt, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Hoggatt has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

Mississinawa Valley's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Botkins, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8.

Mississinawa Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Botkins, they will challenge Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
