Recap: Raymond Central Mustangs vs. Nebraska City Pioneers
The Raymond Central Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nebraska City. Raymond Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Nebraska City apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colton Dubas, who scored 13 points. Reid Otto was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Kalan Fritch was a one-man wrecking crew for Nebraska City as he scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Kaiden Klassen, who scored four points along with two steals.
Raymond Central dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Nebraska City, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15.
Raymond Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lakeview at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Raymond Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Nebraska City, they will head out on the road to take on Fort Calhoun at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Calhoun presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Nebraska City in Nebraska (Fort Calhoun is ranked 42nd, while Nebraska City is ranked 223rd).
