Basketball Recap: Dundalk Comes Up Short

After flying high against Parkville last Wednesday, Dundalk came back down to earth. The Dundalk Owls took a blow against the Pikesville Panthers on Thursday, falling 55-17. The contest marked the Owls' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Dundalk still got an impressive performance from Caitlyn Howard, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards. Another player making a difference was Jamie Maney, who posted four points and four steals.

NyJae Malik-El went supernova for Pikesville, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 steals. Malik-El is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season. Mariah Jones-Bey was another key player, putting up 11 points and five steals.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-3. As for Pikesville, the victory was the 14th in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.

Dundalk will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Woodlawn at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Dundalk is facing Woodlawn at the right time seeing as Woodlawn is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Pikesville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 40-32 win against St. Anthony's on the 27th.
