Baseball Recap: Vanlue Comes Up Short

Vanlue extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 28 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 0-17 in the process. They lost 11-2 to the Ridgedale Rockets. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Rockets from their previous meeting back in March of 2018.

Greg Spears was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Ridgedale, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Ridgedale's side, Quincy Thomas made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Thomas was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Ridgedale got a massive performance out of Brody Mawer, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Ayden Salyer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ridgedale beat Vanlue by a score of 15-3 later that day.
