Baseball Recap: Gateway Has No Trouble Against Overland

Gateway barely beat Overland the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Olympians put the hurt on the Trailblazers with a sharp 17-7 victory on Thursday. The Olympians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Mervin Loya, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Gateway: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 1-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Petersen, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Gateway has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Overland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-6 victory against Sierra on the 12th. As for Overland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 28-0 defeat against Northfield on the 12th.
