Baseball Game Preview: Heritage Academy Heroes vs. Ajo Red Raiders

The Heritage Academy Heroes will square off against the Ajo Red Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Heritage Academy made easy work of Thunderbird Adventist Academy and carried off a 10-1 win. Considering the Heroes have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

David Mota spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Heritage Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Heritage Academy let Carson Grover and Mattson Young run wild. Grover scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Young scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Heritage Academy is 3-1 when Young posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Maverik Ray was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Ajo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
