Baseball Game Preview: Dunn Earwigs vs. Thacher Toads

The Dunn Earwigs will take on the Thacher Toads at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Dunn fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Grace on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. The Earwigs' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Hudson Von Der Lieth made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Austin Kong also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Thacher came up short against Grace last Thursday and fell 6-1.

Thacher saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Ho, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Dunn's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Thacher, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dunn has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Thacher struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Dunn suffered a grim 26-10 defeat to Thacher in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Earwigs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
