Basketball Recap: Salida Comes Up Short

Salida has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 56-46 to the Rye Thunderbolts on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Thunderbolts are ranked 257th).

Rye found their leader in sophomore Eli Guzman, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 18 rebounds. Guzman is becoming a predictor of Rye's success: when he posts at least ten boards the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Isaiah Guzman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists.

Salida's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Rye, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salida will welcome The Vanguard School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rye, they will challenge Lamar at 7:30 p.m. on February 13th.
