Valley Christian (Chandler, Ariz.) bested Sequoia (Mesa, Ariz.) 69-7 on the strength of
Brandon Haagsma, who tossed four touchdown passes.
After taking the lead on a Haagsma touchdown pass to
TJ Widner in the first quarter, the Trojans led 55-0 at the half.
Valley Christian grew its lead to 62 points entering the fourth quarter. VC scored once in the quarter on a defensive touchdown.
Valley Christian's defense helped with 12 points of its own during the win.
Haagsma played well for the Trojans in the victory. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns and kicked four extra points. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Sequoia's only touchdown came on a 55-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
Valley Christian came into the game allowing 16.0 points per game.
Valley Christian (4-3) goes up against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy in a V Section IV game matchup next week, while Sequoia (0-7) locks horns with Chandler Prep also in a V Section IV game.
