Basketball Recap: Pittsburg Comes Up Short

Pittsburg was the 86-50 winner over Freedom when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Pittsburg Pirates were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 64-63 to the Freedom Falcons. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Pirates came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Falcons are ranked 570th).

Despite the loss, Pittsburg still got an impressive performance from Jermaine Earnest, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 16 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kahlil Bernard, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Pittsburg's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Freedom, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-12.

Pittsburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 61-51 victory against Clayton Valley Charter on the 11th. As for Freedom, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 95-44 defeat against Dublin on the 11th.
