Softball Recap: Legacy Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Legacy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They put the hurt on the Rancho Rams with a sharp 13-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-12 back in March.

Elena Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Victoria Beebe and Madison Castellon did most of the damage at the plate: Beebe scored four runs and stole six bases while going 3-for-4, while Castellon scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Castellon has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kitana Tuinei, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-4.

Legacy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Legacy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-5 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Legacy will host Clark at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rancho, they will be playing at home against Cimarron-Memorial at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season.
