MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: No. 6 Mater Dei wins at Orange Lutheran 25-10

No. 22 Miami Central locks horns with rival Miami Northwestern on Saturday.

No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) led Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) 10-3 after the third quarter before scoring 15 unanswered points to start the final frame to win 25-10. 

Malachi Roby scored the first touchdown of the day for Mater Dei in the first quarter. In the fourth quarter senior Justin Lewis ripped off a 40-yard touchdown run to put the Monarchs up 14. 

Mater Dei put the game away when Ohio State commit Kayden Dixon-Wyatt caught a touchdown over two defenders from quarterback Ryan Hopkins. The Monarchs take on Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) next week.

No. 15 Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) survived against Varina (Richmond, Va.) 21-14. 



With the game knotted up 14-14 and two minutes left, freshman quarterback Brody Lowe hit senior Kaden Catoe for a 56-yard strike to put Grimsley on the 2-yard line. 

The next play sophomore running back Ty Shoemake scored his second rushing touchdown of the game to give the Whirlies a 21-14 lead with 1:51 left over the No. 6 ranked team in Virginia.

On Varina’s final drive, Grimsley junior Andrew Rogers recorded a sack and then senior Khyan Battle sealed the game with an interception. 

No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) won over Venice (Fla.) 27-14. Five-star sophomore quarterback Jayden Wade connected with fellow five-star Eric McFarland for three touchdowns. Five-star junior Zyron Forstall added a big third-down sack to seal the victory. 

The students stormed the field after No. 23 Baylor (Chattanooga) went on the road and beat No. 25 McCallie (Chattanooga) 38-35. 

McCallie went up 14-0 before five-star Baylor running back David Gabriel-Georges took off. The junior rushed for three touchdowns and over 200 yards. His last touchdown put Baylor up 31-28.



The Blue Tornado answered as senior quarterback Elliott Drapeau rushed for a touchdown from midfield to put McCallie back on top 35-31. 

Baylor wasn't done and drove down the field as Louisville pledge Briggs Cherry found senior Kaiden Dewey in the end zone for the lead and the win in the 95th meeting between the schools. 

No. 22 Central (Miami)  was one of three new teams to join the MaxPreps Top 25 this week and has a huge matchup Saturday against a talented Northwestern (Miami) squad. This will be the 30th meeting since 2004 with Central holding a 15-14 edge. 

No. 5 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) was the only MaxPreps Top 25 team to play on Thursday and cruised to a 62-20 win over Roosevelt (Eastvale, Calif.) to give Matt Logan his 300th win as head coach. 

No. 2 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) added another quality win by defeating The First Academy (Orlando, Fla.) 37-0. The Panthers led 24-0 at halftime.

No. 9 Buford (Ga.) won at Collins Hill (Suwanee) 34-3 on Friday. Senior Nebraska commit Dayton Raiola ran for a touchdown and tossed two more scores to senior Torre Costin and sophomore Braylon Williams. The Wolves have improved to 6-0.



No. 10 Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) won 42-21 over St. Augustine (New Orleans, La.). Cougars senior quarterback John Johnson threw three touchdowns passes and added two more on the ground. He hit three different targets for touchdowns in Anthony Thomas, Floyd Jones and Xavier Owens

No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) scored 10 touchdowns in a 70-21 win over JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano)

Sophomore quarterback Koa Malau'ulu threw five touchdowns to Daniel Odom, Carson Clark, Maliq Allen, Ashton Keyes and Madden Williams. Allen and Keyes also had rushing touchdowns. 

St. John Bosco will head to Orange Lutheran next week. 

No. 19 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) in a matchup of undefeated teams 35-14. 

The Spartans improve to 6-0 and all five of their touchdowns were on the ground. Quarterback Brayden Knight and running back Jamal Johnson-Lucas each had two touchdowns while Greg Jones also found the end zone.
