Baseball Game Preview: Dixie Flyers vs. Desert Hills Thunder

For the second straight game, Dixie will face off against Desert Hills. The Flyers will venture away from home to challenge the Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dixie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Dixie is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Desert Hills, who was ranked second at the time (Dixie was ranked 19th). The Flyers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Thunder an 11-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Flyers have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jake Andreas made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Weston Gilmore, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Max Larkin was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Dixie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Dixie's record now sits at 9-7. As for Desert Hills, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 14-1.

Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dixie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313.
