MaxPreps 2016 Alaska preseason high school baseball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

Defending champion Chugiak, Juneau-Douglas and South are teams to beat. Also watch for Dimond and Ketchikan in the Alaska baseball #MaxPrepsFab5.

2016 Alaska Preseason Baseball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. Chugiak (Eagle River)
Head coach:
Doug Henie
2015 record: 15-4

Chugiak won the state high school tournament with a 5-0 win over South (Anchorage) and it also won the American Legion tournament later in the summer. Chugiak lost a number of top players from last year's title team, but it returns infielder Charlie Bucolo, who played for the Alaska Baseball Academy in the fall.

2. Juneau-Douglas
Head coach:
Will Race
2015 record: 15-5



The Crimson Bears reached the second round of the state tournament before falling to South. Three key players return from that team, including sophomore catcher Michael Cesar, junior pitcher Bryce Swofford and sophomore outfielder Kasey Watts.

3. South (Anchorage)
Head coach:
Taylor Nerland
2015 record: 15-4

South reached the state championship game, but fell to Chugiak 5-0. South returns three players who earned all-state honors, including catcher Julito Fazzini, infielder Jonny Homza and outfielder Parker Johnson. Homza and Johnson are both juniors.

4. Dimond (Anchorage)
Head coach:
Telon Bremont
2015 record: 6-4 (league record)



Dimond did not reach the state tournament, finishing in fourth place in the Cook Inlet Conference last year. However Dimond returns sophomore pitcher Jake Andresen, who earned all-conference second team honors, and utility player Kyle Henrickson, who was a first-team selection.

5. Ketchikan
Head coach:
Andy Berntson
2015 record: 18-4

Ketchikan returns the state's top player in Nathan Bonck, a first baseman who earned Gatorade State Player of the Year honors after batting .507 with seven home runs. He also posted a 5-0 pitching record.
