Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Aptos). They were the clear victors by  a  16-2 margin over the Harbor Pirates on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mariners considering their one-run performance the  game before.
Aptos got a great performance from  Jason Yager as he  struck out seven batters over  five innings while giving up just one earned  (and one unearned) run off   seven  hits. Yager is becoming a predictor of the Mariners' success: when he allows at  most one  earned run the team is 4-2 (and 5-11 when he doesn't).
 At the plate,  the team  relied heavily on  Alec Mendoza, who  went a perfect 4-for-4 with two  runs, one  stolen base,  and two  RBI. Those  four  hits gave  him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was  Adam Ayon, who  went 3-for-4 with three  runs and one  RBI.
 Aptos  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .605. That's the best  OBP they've posted all season.
Aptos' victory bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Harbor, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.
 Looking ahead, Aptos will face off against Silver Creek at 11:00  a.m.  on Saturday. The Raiders will roll in looking for their  tenth straight  win, something the Mariners surely won't give up without a fight. As for Harbor, they will challenge Soquel at 4:00  p.m.  on Tuesday.
