Basketball Game Preview: Woodbridge Vikings vs. Forest Park Bruins

The Woodbridge Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Forest Park Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Woodbridge lost 64-42 to Gainesville on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Cardinals are ranked 92nd).

Despite the loss, Woodbridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maia Melendez posted 21 points. Melendez's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Ayanna Porter was another key player, putting up six points along with 11 boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, Forest Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Mountain View, falling 50-30.

Forest Park's loss dropped their record down to 3-18. As for Woodbridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

Everything came up roses for Woodbridge against Forest Park in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 65-36 victory. In that match, Woodbridge amassed a halftime lead of 44-15, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
