Recap: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Cairo Pilots
The Mt. Vernon Rams stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They claimed a resounding 80-40 win over Cairo on the road. The win was nothing new for Mt. Vernon as they're now sitting on four straight.
Mt. Vernon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tiara Johnson, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Johnson hasn't dropped below two steals for 16 straight games. Melaina Zedalis was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and five steals.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 15 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Cairo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
Mt. Vernon will challenge Carterville at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carterville is on a three-game streak of home wins, Mt. Vernon a 15-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Cairo on the road again on Saturday and play against Varsity Opponent on January 20th.
