Basketball Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

Jones was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss. They were outmatched by the Southside Seahawks and fell 64-18. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Seahawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-27 last Monday.

Tamya Smith was nothing short of spectacular for Southside: she went 9 for 18 en route to 21 points and three steals. Those 21 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was I'Kiriyah Minor, who posted 15 points and five rebounds.

Jones' defeat dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Southside, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jones will face off against Lejeune at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southside, they will challenge Pamlico County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Sydney Whitley-Reese and Lily McLean.
