Football Game Preview: Mantachie Mustangs vs. Booneville Blue Devils

The Mantachie Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Booneville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mantachie is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Mantachie had taken Alcorn Central down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Mustangs took a 20-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. Despite 115 more yards than the Bears, the Mustangs couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Mantachie might have lost, but man, Garret Hopkins was a machine: he rushed for 221 yards and a pair of TDs. With that strong performance, Hopkins is now averaging an impressive 113.9 rushing yards per game.

Meanwhile, Booneville can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They took down Belmont 32-14. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Booneville picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Mantachie, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-5.

Mantachie came up short against Booneville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 23-13. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
