Baseball Recap: Canyon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Crean Lutheran

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canyon). They never let the Crean Lutheran Saints get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory on Saturday. The Comanches have beaten the Saints the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Saints has come to flipping the script.

The result came thanks to Kemuel Zhang's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Blake Lau was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Alex Clovery was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Canyon's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Crean Lutheran, they moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canyon will welcome Woodrow Wilson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crean Lutheran, they will take on San Juan Hills in a tournament on March 22nd.
