The Herscher Tigers will face off against the Pontiac Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Herscher has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a proper cat-fight when Herscher duked it out with Wilmington on Tuesday. The Tigers came up short against the Wildcats, falling 13-3. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
Herscher saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anistin Hackley, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Pontiac entered their tilt with Rantoul on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 15-4 victory. Considering the Indians have won three matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Elena Krause was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Krause was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, India Mattingly was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Nevaeh Vogt was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Pontiac pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Herscher, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Herscher might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Pontiac in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
