Baseball Recap: Washburn Triumphs

Washburn proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 14) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Madawaska Owls 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Beavers: when they faced off against the Owls back in May, they had to take a 12-4 defeat.

Brayden Barnard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Barnard was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Washburn: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise.

Barnard wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tommy King, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Avery Nadeau, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

The victory got Washburn back to even at 7-7. As for Madawaska, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
