Baseball Game Preview: Breckenridge Huskies vs. Montabella Mustangs

Breckenridge is 9-1 against Montabella since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Huskies will square off against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Breckenridge will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Breckenridge and Coleman, and Breckenridge kept the tradition alive. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Comets on Friday. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Huskies this season.

Gavin Corbat made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Keegan Suhr was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Bentley MacLaren was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Montabella was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Sacred Heart Academy. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Montabella saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Kauffman, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Breckenridge's record now sits at 4-8-2. As for Montabella, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Breckenridge suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Montabella in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
