Football Recap: Myrtle Falls Despite Big Games from Tucker Elliott and Jeffery Hall

If Myrtle was feeling good fresh off their 37-8 takedown of Potts Camp last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hawks fell just short of the Belmont Cardinals by a score of 30-28 on Friday. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Myrtle's loss came despite strong showings from Jeffery Hall and Tucker Elliott. Hall picked up 112 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Elliott threw for 211 yards and a pair of TDs on only 17 passes. Hall's longest reception was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

While Myrtle came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Belmont: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 45%. The team can thank Harlem McClendon for the heroic effort on defense: he. Myrtle wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 52.9%.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Belmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaden Rojas, who picked up 113 receiving yards and one score. Rojas didn't just play on offense: he also made five total tackles and defended one pass. Kylei Estes also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Having lost for the first time this season, Myrtle fell to 2-1. As for Belmont, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Myrtle is taking a road trip to challenge Vardaman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Belmont, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tishomingo County at 7:00 p.m.
