5A Pioneer recap Oct. 9, 2012

Rock Canyon led 5A Pioneer in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on Doherty. Eric Williams ran for 279 yards and caught one passes for 16 yards in the win.

Travis Gordon made the biggest impact on defense this week as Palmer fell to Heritage. The junior pulled down one interception and recorded one fumble.

Brendon Lucero was the best wideout in the league this week as the Spartans lost to the Jaguars. Lucero tallied three receptions for 82 yards. Zach Young helped Doherty's passing attack out by catching one ball for eight yards.

Peyton Remy put up the best numbers through the air as Legend fell to Fountain-Fort Carson. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 143 yards and one touchdown. Remy's favorite target this week was Jake Krough, who caught three passes for 71 yards.

Rock Canyon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Jaguars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ryan Hommel has thrown for 1062 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Michael Sheperd has 17 catches for 258 yards. Williams leads the league in rushing with 924 yards.

Rock Canyon's Williams needs only 76 yards against the Terrors next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in 5A Pioneer this week will be when Castle View takes on the Trojans. The Sabercats are in fifth place, while Fountain-Fort Carson is in first place.

The Titans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,196 from 5,538. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 41-7 victory over Legend last week.
