Softball Recap: Central Christian Comes Up Short

Central Christian extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mansfield Christian Flames. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Comets of the 11-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Micah Kozel Steiner put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Kozel Steiner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Edisa Plants made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for Mansfield Christian, with the victory, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 15, 2024.

Like Central Christian, Mansfield Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Bailee Nelson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Nelson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Hockman, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

While Central Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
