Baseball Recap: Westwood Takes a Loss

Westwood came into this matchup off a tough seven-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Lugoff-Elgin Demons by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Redhawks have suffered since March 8, 2024.

Westwood saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kellen Moore, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. With that strong performance, Moore is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Jayden Quarles also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Westwood is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-9. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westwood will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sumter at 6:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they will face off against Lexington at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Demons surely won't give up without a fight.
