Basketball Recap: Cairo Comes Up Short

Cairo lost against Mayfield back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cairo Pilots came up short against the Mayfield Cardinals, falling 86-60. While losing is never fun, the Pilots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 502nd in Illinois, while the Cardinals are ranked 102nd in Kentucky).

Cairo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Mayfield, they moved to 17-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cairo will face off against Lovejoy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mayfield has already played their next match (against Graves County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
