Basketball Game Preview: St. Petersburg Green Devils vs. Countryside Cougars

The St. Petersburg Green Devils will square off against the Countryside Cougars on Friday. St. Petersburg knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 25 matchups -- so hopefully Countryside likes a good challenge.

St. Petersburg is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They strolled past Clearwater with points to spare, taking the game 76-61.

Meanwhile, Countryside had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 58-46. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Warriors are ranked 299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Countryside pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for St. Petersburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Everything came up roses for St. Petersburg against Countryside when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 77-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Petersburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
