Football Recap: Kemper County Comes Up Short

After soaring to 70 points the game before, Kemper County was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They took a blow against the Heidelberg Oilers, falling 54-6. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-6.

When it comes to explaining why Kemper County lost, don't look at Damarius Yates. Despite the final result, he rushed for 150 yards and one TD while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Yates has become a key player for the Wildcats: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise.

Chase Craft continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Heidelberg, rushing for 123 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries, while also throwing for 191 yards and three touchdowns while completing 92.3% of his passes. That's the most rushing yards Craft has posted since back in September.

Kemper County now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Heidelberg, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

Looking ahead, Kemper County will face off against Philadelphia at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. As for Heidelberg, they will square off against Clarkdale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 15 points per game this season, so the Oilers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
